Pencil on hot press water color paper
30” x 22”

Although tightly observed shards of three broken light bulbs scattered on a metal ring, the whole composition and focus of this drawing is a nod to my love of abstraction. Even the category I am submitting in is abstraction although it’s a still-life as well.

Two of the bulbs had a white powder in them, when they shatter the white powder scratches off in strange and wonderful patterns. One of the bulbs was clear; it was quite a test to draw the complex transparencies of hundreds of shards with their distortion and complex values. My main challenge was dealing with the extreme low angle of light and shadow. I set this up on the floor of my studio and worked from a combination of photos and the real pieces of glass. It certainly took much longer then expected but what else is new. Now it’s off to a rare commission…

It definitely requires a closer look in order to appreciate the artist `nimra's true genius and not to mention craftsmanship dedicated towards 3 on Zero, where a turbulent flow of abstraction explodes from a theme that takes on hyper-realism as an ostensible facade. (Suggested by ~anime-freak112 and Featured by ^snowmask)

This is utterly brilliant, if I didn't know any better I would assume it's a black & white photo. You certainly have mastered the tool that is the pencil, very well done. :clap:
