“5Th Street Looking South”, Pencil on Arches watercolor paper, 16” x 20”
After a “major” drawing I have always chose something to clean a my palette, part experiment in a conceptual sense and a challenge technically as well but something that is not particularly time consuming and that’s relevant as well this took 150 hours so it’s not exactly a sketch.
Two thoughts have always been paramount in my drawing, composition and texture, the narrative and the fascination with complexities are a close second. Within my experimentation with iPhoneography I have been fascinated by telephone poles. The series is titled “Sky Grids” this drawing is part of that along with the said photography and encaustic works. I love these poles of yesteryear and in a world of the instant and internet yet we still are depend on these “trees” one snaps and we are in the dark, including technology that we take for granted. Here is a link to some of these photos… [link]
How far I will work in this series is up in the air but I loved working on this vista looking south out of my studio door, the stillness of a winter, and the grid that breaks the visual silence.
Next it’s my second double eye and most likely the last of the concentrated eye pieces, this has to be completed for ArtPrize come September, back to the drawing board and most likely will do this one as a WIP its been a long time since doing one.
Thanks for looking
