“FEAR”

Graphite and white Prismacolor pencil

12” x 26”

This is an odd drawing in many ways. Just a test really to work again with white prismacolor pencil and graphite on a toned paper. I was just going to draw my eye but wanted to experiment with some symbolism-that’s where the birds come in, abstracted a bit and stylized so to differ from the real look of the eye. In the end it feels way too illustrative for my liking. I do think that in many ways I am a purest I’m not wild about the white, for me to get the illusion of highlights with the white of the paper and create the hair buy drawing around it makes for a stronger and cleaner image. That said I might do something with it in future drawings, ya never know.

A few years ago I sketched these birds from a section of a painting which I can no longer find; I would like to credit the artist for the composition of the birds

The big question is it a success? Sure I learned from it and its ok but not something I’ll be showing much.
