“For God and Country”

22” x 30”

This work is part of an on going series called “Neo-Fossil. Inspired by fossils, their shape, their texture and history.

In this work, I am reacting to man’s continuing preoccupation at killing and dying for God and Country. I do this by representing a synthesis of religious, social and anatomical images. I try to bear witness to that moment when the next tenant of this planet finds proof of our existence, in the form of fossils. This is not a fatalistic view, but a deep respect for the powers of nature (e.g. God) to reclaim and recreate.

I like how the two are combined. However great the statue was, representing some hero or warrior, it always comes back to the same thing, what God first created. The barbed wire adds a nice touch, made me think of a crown of thorns. . .
