This is the twelfth gate painting. The surround was constructed of wood, spray paint, graphite powder, pastels, oil pastels and acrylics. The surround is acutely not a frame but part of the painting; the frame is the oak at the very edge. These works are more about color, memory and place; I enjoy creating the look of metal instead of using real iron as in found objects. Its the same as the painting itself its all an illusion.
Very beautiful work. I love the way that you made an illusion of the frame being real. The images in the center is showing a sunset I'm suppose along with fog. The colors kinda somewhat makes it pretty. Nice to see you doing something very different than what you do at the most of your time.

If I were a comfortably well-off person without serious monetary or personal debt, then and only then would I buy art for my pleasure and holding. Even then, I doubt I would buy everything that sells itself as realistic or relevant, since I see most art as compulsive and irrellevant.
I think that your work is never either, for I have heard you say so and I love the jealousy that you have for your art. And looking at this for a fair while (before commenting), I concluded that I would buy it. Were I the artist behind this work I think I would not sell it - period.
And a beautiful illusion it is! I love the depth of the place i see in the painting...the ephemeral quality to it. As if it might change at any moment and be gone. This is in great contrast to the frame that looks very much like metal...solid and heavy. Great piece of work! You invested a lot of time and effort in this, and i think it has paid off very well for you in the effect you have achieved. Thank you very much for sharing your process with us!
It's beautiful. I wish I could see it in real life, to properly see the texture! I love the way you incorporated both warm and cold tones into the painting, and it works so well with the fake metal bit.
Thanks Pat i got it done just in time, today take it to the exihibit
