Sticks and Stones
30” x 19” pencil on hot press water color paper.
A simple concept; instead of the usual flowers with their sensual soft shapes, what we undeniably think of as beautiful, I placed some sticks and stones scraped from underneath my deck and filled a beer glass (I drank the beer first). In front I placed two more beer glasses, half filled with water and stuck in just a couple of sticks. The beauty is in the distortions, refractions, and transparencies. With each new layer of glass the sticks changes in detail, sharpness and direction. What first intrigued me was that the refraction of the second largest glass where the water completely hides the sticks and stones in the back glass. Sometimes I draw for just the love of it; this was one of those times.
Beautiful in it's simplicity.
I love the look of the glass--if you don't mind me asking, how did you do it? I've tried drawing glass before and I've never been able to make it actually look like glass...

But on a more serious note. Amazing job. I have this weird twitch where I see your work, and my jaw just drops for some reason. I dont get it, but oh well.
Ive never really enjoyed trying or looking at still life pictures, but this I can just stare at. Excellent work nimra, youve inspired me to try even harder at my work.

If sticks and stone will break your bones, but names will never harm you, what exactly is holding me back from beating you down with a big giant stick?
