" The Simplicity of Silence " (dedicated to Fritz Mersmann)
85” x 45” pencil on Arches hot press board mounted on maple
I have had more time to work on this of late although I’ve been working in my studio where I teach because I have been doing a lot of demos, I hope soon to get it back to my home studio where I can get a lot more done. Also I’ve been working on a huge encaustic piece at my painting studio which also is in another location. My concentration has been the area between the two large branches going up from the main entanglement, it a very difficult part of the drawing, hell it’s all difficult. I have 700 hours in so far looks like I’m at the half way point
This drawing is so large I have to use a grid and I have close to 200 photos I’m working with and a bunch of branches and twigs so I can capture texture not just of a photo but from the real thing. This drawing is of a fallen tree and stump after we had a blizzard but the top will be thousands of trees in the background
I simply love the amount of detail, depth and complexity you put into this drawing! Hope i get there someday! On a related note, sprichst du deutsch? Also, could you recommend a really good, high quality paper for a larger scale drawing? Because I'm planning on doing a A3 drawing soon I think paper does matter when it comes to detailed drawing.
I speak understand and read German, writing in it i cant spell, i can hardly spell in English
30" x 40" Illustration board Starthmore 500 or Crescent work will, larger then that it has to be custom made, like the one im drawing which is 85" x 45"

you're doing fine, nothing wrong with your spelling. wow 85x45 is huge, that must've been expensive to have it costum made? And thx ill try getting that paper, heard lots of good things about Strathmore.
yeah it costs about $600 for the mounted paper, a little pricy

yeah thats one of snows downsides. You mind me asking where you live? Germany usually doesn't have much snow fall. I'm from there but don't live there anymore.
Im from there as well but have been living in Michigan most of my life,i got back to Germany when i can but its been some years now
